All you need to know about this unique event.

Welcome to The Great Outdoors Challenge

The Great Outdoors Challenge is a unique and very special Scottish institution and in 2019 we celebrated the 40th Challenge.  Since 1980 thousands of people have taken up the opportunity to backpack from Scotland’s west coast to the east as part of this annual event – each of them following their own carefully crafted route. Many of those Challengers come back time and time again, drawn by the potential for both wilderness and camaraderie.

With much regret the 2020 TGO Challenge has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.   Places have been deferred until TGOC21 which will take place 14th-28th May 2021.  However, though we can’t  use our feet to walk across Scotland we can travel in our imaginations!  The #virtualTGO Challenge will happen on phone/tablet computer near you!  Read more here.
